Dog discovered roaming the streets of Detroit with a plush toy receives a rescue

It was a heart-wrenching scene: a German Shepherd was observed roaming alone through the streets of Detroit, with only her beloved stuffed animal as a companion.

However, there’s good news as this lovely dog has been successfully rescued and is now in a secure and protected environment.

As reported by FOX 2 Detroit, community members noticed the dog wandering the streets and, despite her being a female, they affectionately named her “Nicholas.” Neighbors shared that the dog found herself without a home following the passing of her owner.

As the canine’s narrative gained attention, several local organizations — including It Is Pawsible Dog Training, South Lyon Murphy Lost Animal Recovery, Sugar Mutts Dog Grooming, and Almost Home Animal Rescue — united their efforts to ensnare the dog and ensure her safety.

“It’s truly incredible how everyone comes together and collaborates as a team,” expressed Katrina Weaver, the proprietor of It Is Pawsible, in an interview with FOX 2.×280&!2&btvi=1&fsb=1&xpc=zc0q79OLsk&p=https%3A//

Fortunately, their rescue operation yielded positive results: Almost Home No Kill Rescue announced on May 3 that they had successfully trapped the dog and were now providing her with care. In consideration of her gender, they decided to rename “Nicholas” as “Nikki.”

“From this point forward, only positive experiences await, leading to a brighter future!” expressed the rescue organization on their Facebook page. “We appreciate all the support, and now Nikki will have the opportunity to thrive in a caring home!”

However, there is one challenge: Nikki has been diagnosed with heartworm, necessitating a four-week treatment plan. Currently, Nikki is taking things slow, receiving medication, and going on supervised walks. Once she has fully recovered, the rescue will commence the search for her new forever home.×280&!3&btvi=2&fsb=1&xpc=K7VMw5c9Zd&p=https%3A//

During this interim period, Nikki is receiving excellent care — and, yes, she still has her cherished stuffed animal by her side ❤️.

We’re so glad this beautiful dog is safe and sound now, with her beloved stuffed animal  Hope Nikki recovers and finds a great new home soon!
