Dog in Florida Inadvertently Shifts Car Into Reverse and Circles for One Hour

You’ve heard of wild “Florida man” stories, but apparently, Florida dog stories are just as unbelievable!

Anne Sabol resides in a peaceful neighborhood in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Normally, it’s calm, but recently her cul-de-sac was filled with commotion. When Sabol spotted a car going in reverse and spinning in circles, she initially assumed it was a student driver who lost control. However, as she approached closer, she realized that a dog had accidentally jumped into its owner’s running car and shifted the transmission lever into reverse!

“At first, I thought I saw someone reversing, but then they kept going, and I’m like, ‘OK, what are they doing?’” – said Sabol.

The police and fire department arrived at the scene around the same time. Authorities observed from a safe distance, unsure of how to resolve the situation and regain control of the car. It wasn’t until the vehicle collided with a mailbox and a few garbage cans that it slowed down enough for first responders to take action.

Officers in Port St. Lucie opened the door and Sabol witnessed a big, black Labrador mix jumping out of the driver’s seat.

“‘OK, this is getting bizarre,’” Sabol recalled thinking.

The owner of the dog, who requested to remain anonymous, stated that he had left his car running on the street for a brief moment. However, by the time he returned, the dog was already on a joyride!

The only damage was to the mailbox that the vehicle struck, which the dog’s owner promised to repair. The garbage cans were unharmed. When asked about her thoughts on the situation by a local news outlet, Sabol commented:

“They should give that dog a license.”

Florida stories have become quite notorious. Fortunately, most of them are humorous! If you enjoyed this story, please leave a like and share! Thank you!
