Heartwarming Reunion: Woman Reunites with Dog Gone Missing for 19 Days After Car Accident

In the summer of 2018, Samantha Orr and her mother Jennifer were on a road trip in the Colorado mountains when a calamity struck. A sizable rock in the road caused Jennifer to swerve and the vehicle slid 600 feet down the side of a mountain, ultimately leading to her death. Samantha was left seriously injured with displaced ribs and a compressed vertebra.

Adding to Samantha’s sorrow was the fact that her cherished Goldendoodle, Bentley, was also in the car at the time of the accident and was nowhere to be found in the weeks following the crash. Despite the lack of leads or sightings, Samantha refused to give up hope and held onto the belief that Bentley was still out there somewhere.

Weeks turned into months, but Samantha persisted in her search for Bentley, posting flyers and reaching out to local animal shelters. Then, 19 days after the accident, Samantha received a call from a hiker who had spotted a dog that resembled Bentley in the area where the accident had occurred.

Samantha promptly set out to find Bentley and, after a challenging climb up the mountain, she was reunited with her beloved pup. Bentley had miraculously survived the crash and had been sustaining himself by hunting small animals and scavenging for food in the wild.

Samantha and Bentley’s reunion was an emotional and jubilant moment, and the resilient pup became a symbol of hope and determination in the midst of adversity.

According to the “Bring Bentley Home” Facebook page, Samantha witnessed her cherished Goldendoodle, Bentley, being ejected from the vehicle during a fatal accident. As someone who held her dog dear and considered him to be one of her closest companions, Samantha was devastated by the loss.

Determined to find Bentley, Samantha appealed to the public to join in the search efforts, believing that reuniting with him would be crucial for the family to find closure. However, despite their best endeavors, two weeks had passed with no sign of Bentley. Nonetheless, the family clung to the hope that he was still alive and out there somewhere.

In a Facebook post, Samantha expressed her unwavering belief that Bentley was still frightened and in need of their assistance. The family’s mission was clear: to bring Bentley back home to Kansas where he belonged and to provide solace to their grieving hearts.

After a brief period of silence on the Facebook page, Samantha Orr received a message from Joseph Stratmann. It turns out that he had been actively searching for Bentley and had even been leaving food out for him near the location of the crash.

On a Saturday morning, 19 days after the accident, Samantha met with Joseph in the mountains to collaborate in the search for Bentley. Together, they set out with hope and determination to reunite the lost pup with his loving family.

An emotional reunion

In the video, Bentley can be seen gazing towards the crash site where the Jeep has been wrecked. From a distance, he is observing the wreckage and hearing Orr’s cries. As the video progresses, Bentley moves closer to the crash site, presumably trying to understand the situation.

“It’s momma,” Orr pleads. “Good boy … come, come.”

After some initial hesitation, Bentley is eventually comforted and reassured, prompting him to dash towards her with full speed.

Thanking a rescuer

“Joe was my living guardian angel on Saturday. He safely led me up the mountain, kept me calm and positive, everything I needed in that moment. At times he was a human stepping stool for me when I had no foot placement while climbing the mountain on all fours. This incredible man is the reason I was able to connect with my traumatized Bentley. Had it not been for Joe, this puppy would not have returned home. Thank you so much, Joe.”

In her blog, she shared her personal experience of the grief she went through after the accident, along with the coping mechanisms she learned to manage it.

“Nothing could heal the pain in my heart from losing my mom,” she said. “But having him back was one less loss to bear, and I will be forever grateful to have my mountain man safely at home. Sometimes I watch him sleep, sprawled on his back without a care in the world, and I imagine what he must have seen and done during those days. I can’t even begin to guess, but I’m so, so proud of him.”
