He was left all by himself for approximately two weeks with a sealed bag of food, toys, a bed, and a fractured leg.
Hank used to have a family. However, they deserted him in the forest.
They abandoned him there with a fractured leg, a sealed bag of food he couldn’t access, his bed, and some old toys.
A compassionate person discovered him sitting quietly on his dog bed in the woods and contacted the nearby animal shelter.
“Just a 8-month-old pup who has already experienced so many hardships. His tail started wagging when he realized he was being brought to the veterinary hospital. We can’t fathom why someone would abandon him in the woods with a broken leg, leaving behind his bed, toys, and food. Whoever you are, please know that Hank is now safe and will never be harmed again,” Humans and Animals United shared on their Facebook page.
Those who saved Hank were apprehensive that he might exhibit aggression due to being in survival mode, but he turned out to be affectionate and gentle.
“He displayed nothing but love from the moment they rescued him,” Rosa Fond, the founder of Humans and Animals United, told The Dodo. “Everyone says he’s the most affectionate dog.”
Hank was promptly taken to the veterinarian, where he was diagnosed with a broken leg that had been troubling him for over a fortnight.
This was the reason he didn’t move from his dog bed, as it caused him too much pain. Hank required significant surgical intervention, and there were even posts on Facebook suggesting that he was at risk of being euthanized.
Thankfully, Humans and Animals United intervened to ensure that Hank received all the essential medical care he needed.
Hank was scheduled for surgery, but he needed to gain weight first.
It was unclear how long he had gone without food, but he was severely emaciated when he was found. It’s likely that he had been abandoned in the woods for two weeks before being discovered.
The veterinary hospital’s personnel made sure to shower him with love and attention during this period. Hank’s tale gained significant traction online.
Donations to cover Hank’s surgery and care expenses began to pour in. People were astounded by how someone could mistreat such an affectionate dog.
Hank’s initial surgery was a success, thanks to the generosity of those who donated and supported him.
He is expected to take some time to recover.
Humans and Animals United also noted that he is still extremely underweight, with his bones protruding.
As a result, he is being fed frequent small meals to help him gain weight. He is currently in a temporary foster home, but will soon be moved to a different foster home that specializes in cases similar to Hank’s.
This will give him the best opportunity to regain his strength and recover from surgery. Once Hank is in good health, he will be available for adoption.
There has been a surge of inquiries about adopting Hank, but an official permanent home has not been finalized yet.
“We are immensely grateful for the good Samaritan who found him and everyone involved in his care. We know that Hank will have a bright future from now on,” the rescue organization wrote.
