The Unfortunate Canine With No Snout and Damaged Teeth Is Likely the Most Woeful Dog in the World

An ailing dog that fell victim to dog attacks and lost his nose is in dire need of a loving home. Thanks to a local news report, there has been an outpouring of potential adopters for the dog.

Sniffles, the canine, has faced considerable hardships after being abandoned in Puerto Rico, where he was subjected to attacks by other stray dogs and developed various medical issues.

Nevertheless, ever since Sniffles traveled to the United States for medical care and his story was shared by a Florida-based animal rescue, his condition has improved significantly, raising hopes of finding him a suitable home soon.

It is believed that Sniffles endured distressing living conditions in Puerto Rico. He is plagued by whipworms and hookworms, alongside other parasites, and requires immediate dental attention.

Furthermore, he is now without a nose due to accounts stating that he was assaulted by other stray dogs, resulting in multiple injuries and ailments.

Subsequently, a local animal rescue organization discovered him in Puerto Rico and facilitated his adoption by a family in the United States, where it was believed he could receive improved medical treatment.

However, his tenure as an employee was brief. Due to Sniffles requiring continuous medical attention, his frequent escapes exposed him to risks.

Eventually, Poodle and Pooch Rescue in Florida, an organization operated by volunteers that rescues 500–600 dogs each year, provided him with a new home.

Sniffles was welcomed by the rescue on December 19, and they promptly began their efforts to secure him a suitable adoption. Consequently, he was showcased on December 24 on WESH, a news station based in Orlando.

Following that, Sniffles experienced a stroke of good fortune. His tale has become widely known, prompting over 100 individuals to contact the shelter, expressing their interest in adopting him.

His future adopter will need to be dedicated to cleansing his nasal passage twice daily and providing him with daily eye drops for a condition called dry eye, as stated by Rebecca Lynch, a spokesperson for the shelter, in a statement to

Sniffles has been found to harbor numerous parasites, including whipworms and hookworms, indicating unsanitary living conditions before coming under our care.

Furthermore, he tested positive for the tick-borne illness Ehrlichia. He is presently undergoing treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

Sniffles displays remarkable resilience and maintains his affection for people despite his afflictions and challenges.

“Sniffles is a resilient young lad,” Lynch added. Despite his history, he initially exhibited some shyness and disorientation but has gradually begun to open up.

He takes pleasure in cuddling, wags his tail, savors outdoor activities, interacts well with other dogs, and, due to his condition, emits endearing little snorting sounds.

He’s an adorable and contented puppy, and we’re thrilled that his story has garnered significant attention since being featured locally in Central Florida.

“Sniffles’ appearance may be unique, but sadly, his situation is not. Every week, we welcome several special needs dogs into our rescue, Sniffles included.

The rescue organization hopes that those who are unable to adopt Sniffles will consider adopting another special needs pet, contribute to the cause, or provide foster care for animals while they explore the wonderful options available to them.

In the meantime, Genesis Diaz, a resident of the neighborhood, has been providing care for Sniffles. She shared with WESH that when she woke up this morning, he was gazing at her from the edge of her bed. He then bounded over, twirled around, and started licking her face.

The animal rescuers are equally smitten.

“He’s simply an amazing old soul,” exclaimed Michelle Wacker, the organization’s medical director. According to her, he has captured the hearts of everyone at the veterinary clinic. He is a healthy dog; he just happens to have an unconventional appearance.
